Javi

  • Castaways nickname: N/A

  • Tours Completed: 2021 - BlackJack Tour; 2022-Carry On Tour; 2024-Here Comes the Sun Tour

  • Team Role/Function? Social Media Team & Merchandise

  • How did you become a Castaway? I reached out to see If I could be of use to some good people with an even better cause.

  • Why are you a Castaway? I had multiple Castaways as teachers in high school. While it is debatable whether I retained any of the information they taught me, I definitely saw that they were passionate about being Castaways and that they could make a big difference despite being such a small organization. Additionally, Cancer isn't a stranger to my family. In fact, not being acquainted with Cancer in some way is a blessing only a few of us are given in life. Trying to be part of the solution felt like a natural choice for me.

  • Outside a kayak/bicycle, what is your "essential" gear? Strong Wifi, cooperation from my aging laptop, creativity, Cuban Coffee (to be consumed at 3:05 PM every day because… DALE), and great pictures from the Tours.

  • Conch Republic Navy Rank? Haven’t had the honor of being inducted yet.

  • Favorite Castaways moment: N/A

  • Favorite Castaways quote: N/A

  • Tell us about your family: My parents are Sebastian and Marlene. My sister is Amanda. We have 4 miniature schnauzers named Miley, Pippa, Dua, and Brandy. Any and all of my attempts to introduce larger *ahem* more masculine dogs into the house have been thwarted.

  • Where are you from? Miami, FL

  • Where'd you go to school? Christopher Columbus High School (16); Florida State (20 and 21)

  • Where do you work? Full-Time Student. Especially the night before a test.

  • Favorite music/artists: Everything. I am the Apple Music algorithm's worst nightmare. Today, I've listened to Wu-Tang Clan, Van Halen, The Temptations, and George Strait.

  • Favorite movies/genre: Anything good, but my desert island movies would be Life Aquatic, Predator, and Big Lebowski.

  • Favorite books: How To Archer and Greenlights (In fairness, these are the only two books I've ever read for fun)

  • Fun facts about you: I graduated from Florida State in swim trunks. My father and I have caught twenty-two bonefish in a single day (afternoon, really). I broke my wrist my day of high school football practice. I have strong opinions on all Ben & Jerry's flavors. When I was 17, I spent 3 days working in Dallas, Texas Emergency Rooms. The last trip I did in college before the Covid Lockdown was to Mardi Gras (still can't tell if that's ironic or poetic).

  • How have I helped carry out the CAC mission of funding cancer research and honoring those who have fought the fight? The Castaways have hearts of gold and an honorable cause pushing them forward. More people should know about them, and it is my goal to make that a reality.
