  • Castaways nickname: N/A

  • Tours Completed: 2021 - BlackJack Tour; 2022-Carry On Tour; 2023-Ridiculous Stunt Tour; 2024-Here Comes the Sun Tour

  • Team Role/Function: CCHS Volunteer Coordinator

  • How did you become a Castaway? Helped fundraise as a member of Columbus staff. Always liked the mission and befriended OB as one of my close friends battled cancer. The kayaking wasn't really "my jam" but then the cycling combines all of that physical pain and suffering into one day. As a masochist, I felt it was a GREAT idea.

  • Why are you a Castaway? The primary reason is to honor my good friend Sune Smith who passed away in 2016. I have known other friends and family members who have battled cancer but this hit me hard and the castaways were a tangible way to get involved.

  • What is your "essential gear" to be a good Castaway? As a cyclist, we need a good pair of padded shorts. Everything else is optional.

  • Conch Republic Navy Rank: Haven’t had the honor of being inducted yet.

  • Favorite Castaways moment: N/A

  • Where'd you go to school? Marjory Stoneman Douglas

  • Where'd you go to College/Grad School? University of Miami; Bachelors and Master's in Exercise Physiology

  • Where do you work? Columbus: Wellness Director

  • Favorite music/artists: Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, Black Keys, Vance Joy, Bob Marley (if it sounds good, I'll give it a chance)

  • Favorite movies/genre: Action, Comedy, Suspense; classics; also have soft spot for Rom Coms (Caddyshack, wizard of Oz, It's a wonderful Life); recent (The Shape of water, The Green Mile, Parasite, Old School)

  • Favorite books: Dystopian novels until they started to feel like reading the news.

  • Personal Fun Fact: In my years of being a castaway I have never made it to the finish line. Maybe this year will be different. I once biked across Europe with my wife. I enjoy traveling.

  • How have I helped carry out the CAC mission of funding cancer research and honoring those who have fought the fight? Every chance I get to raise money and spread the word of the Castaways is a great way to further the mission. I also like to wear comfortable gear with our logo.
