How did you become a Castaway? Started off by labeling Christmas cards in my dining room to then helping with the square grouper drop. It was time to make it official!
Why are you a Castaway? This organization is very close to my heart. Not only do my amazing friends run it, but I’ve lost a few loved ones to cancer. I want to give back and help with cancer research!
What is your "essential gear" to be a good Castaway? My AMAZING personality (kidding…not kidding) is key to helping build relationships and partnerships to spread awareness and continue to grow!
Conch Republic Navy Rank: Haven’t had the honor of being inducted.
Favorite Castaways moment: When we get together after the landing for the flower ceremony and reflect on why we do this and who we do it for. It's so emotional and very meaningful! Also, our human tunnel throughout the Key West (have to mention it can't do this without my hubby, Frigo and the Kumers!)
Favorite Castaways quote: If they don't have fun... they won't come back!
Tell us about your Family: I’m wife to a Columbus alum & teacher (double whammy!) and mom of 4. Yes 4, because Bam (dog) and Coco (cat) are more work than my own human kids. We are so incredibly lucky to have our tribe or as we call them “los 5 dedos”, who are always there no matter what- especially the “viejos”, always ready to take care of the kiddos when mom and dad need some beverages out of the house (may or may not happen more often than not). We are all about the Canes in this family and fight over the remote a lot. Sports VS Shows. I always lose. Or do I ? ;)
Where are you from? The truth? Little Havana —> then moved to the real hood of Kendall.
Where'd you go to high school? According to some, public school, but really St Brendan High. #sabrepride
Where'd you go to College/Grad School? The real and best UM (right Frigo?) Go Canes!
Where do you work and what’s your role there? Regional Director of Programs for One on One Learning
Favorite music/artists: Do you have time? Pitbull, Justin Timberlake, Justin Bieber, Bad Bunny, Britney Spears, NSYNC. The list goes on and on and on I love music and love to dance!
Favorite movies/genre: Disney movies! My mother would say Little Mermaid because apparently I watched that as much as my son has watched Home Alone in the last month (and it’s A LOT guys. A LOT).
Favorite books: I don’t read. JK Half kidding Definitely any personal development books like “5 Second Rule” and “5am Club”
Fun facts about you:
-If I don’t remember meeting you it’s probably because you met Tina… Tina Jones. (Fun fact I have an alter ego that only seems to appear from some select beverages…oops!)
-Both Tina & Lani love to dance.
-I speak multiple languages: English, Spanish, Spanglish and Cuban. How have I helped carry out the CAC mission of funding cancer research and honoring those who have fought the fight? Connect with schools and encourage them to become partners to help us raise awareness and funds. Support our paddlers when on tour by chucking snacks, rum and square groupers over the bridge without getting questioned by the police (again!!).
